Ian McNinch

Background


Born in Essex in 1952, moved to Belgium in 1963, schooled in Yorkshire until 1970. Studied Architecture in Leicester until 1974. Worked in Belgium in Construction until 1977. Moved to Dun Laoghaire in 1978 where I fathered two wonderful sons and worked in architecture until 1985.

Moved to West Cork in 1985 where together with Deirdre, built a house and home & Catering Business.

Since then I have built, cooked, designed, laughed, cried and generally misbehaved!



My Work


I have always drawn. I use drawing to think, escape plan and record.

In the past seven years, since helping to found the Skibbereen based Artist's Collective, now called Working Artist Studios, I have concentrated on sculpting with found objects.

The history of the individual components together with the place I found them, coupled with their shape and texture all help produce a piece of work. Balance, humour and movement are all crucial components.

Having recently re-joined Working Artist Studios I continue to draw, build and construct.
