In our series of conversations during Craft Month in Working Artist Studios with artists, creators and makers, we are delighted to announce a Conversation about design and how and why we make things. We are honoured to host an illustrious panel of experts and creators with Dr Sandra O’Connell, Angela Brady and Kieran Higgins. This is a Free Event, fáilte roimh chách.
Dr Sandra O’Connell – writer and curator on Irish Architecture, Design and Urbanism.
Sandra writes on Architecture, Design and Urban issues, having recently completed a MSc in Urban Regeneration at TU Dublin. She edits house + design magazine and the RIAI Annual Review and is a regular contributor to the Gloss Interiors. She co-wrote and co-presented with Angela Brady the four-part RTE series ‘Designing Ireland’.
Kieran Higgins – Wood Turner
Kieran lives and works in West Cork He began woodturning in 1996 and it is now his full-time occupation. The majority of Kieran’s work consists of relatively large pieces in a variety of forms and timbers. He describes them as ‘non functional pieces with a rustic feel’. The finished piece often highlights the timber’s natural defects (shakes, cracks, decay, knots) and retains some of its natural edge. Bog Oak is a favourite wood to work with.
Angela Brady – Architect, Glass artist and curator.
Angela has been working with fused glass for 15 years and has exhibited in Ireland UK and China. She champions craft and design in the media and on TV and has made many videos promoting West Cork Craft and Design. She curates the 10 Hands Crafts group since 2015. As an architect she brings her artistic designs into Brady Mallalieu architectural projects.
