Nature Soft & Evil Materials by Carolin Liebl & Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler
Offenbach-based artists, Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler, run Atelier Wäscherei, a shared studio space in that city.
They first visited Ireland in 2022 consider themselves lucky to have arrived in Ballydehob!
“We fell in love with the cultural open-ness and energy of the area.”

The current exhibition is based on long-term work with robotics, plastic recycling and sculptural work based on this.
“As sculptors, we work with electrical current, creating a body, or bodies to house it. Sometimes these take the form of robots or automotons, sometimes they produce the work!
The robots dance or spit or make elegant body gestures.”
The recycled plastic can take fantastic forms and colours. Some are balloon-like and illuminated, while some are heavy and earthbound.
Finally, in this cycle of reuse, transformation and development, we have the degradation of the materials, which we observe and capture.
