Like limpets, we tend to return over and over to a place called home, often to deepen our wounds, but hopefully, eventually, to heal them.
To create this A/V composition, multidisciplinary artist Chantal deFelice traveled for the first time to her ancestral homeland, in a larger sense, returning to the land & sea from whence she came, to ask the question–
Can we remember the sounds & sights of our genetic past, and in experiencing them anew, can we heal for those who came before??
Chantal deFelice is a wanderer — a flâneuse in the city, a barefoot child in the forest, a selkie in the sea. She gathers field recordings, still pictures, and moving images as she wanders, transmuting these collections into studious ink drawings, colorful paintings on wood, sonic landscapes and ephemeral video collages. In her live performances, sound & video are layered, then manipulated in real-time, amplified and beamed onto large-surfaces.
I’ll turn my dreams into rainbows that you can eat with your eyes…
