An evening of storytelling & theatre written & hosted by Karen Minihan, based on her best-selling new book.
A pass-the-hat gig.
Recently published, the book Extraordinary, Ordinary Women: Untold Story (by Karen Minihan) tells of the extraordinary contribution made by thirteen ordinary West Cork women, who contributed hugely in the steps leading to the creation of the Irish State.
Extraordinary, Ordinary Women: Live!, written and performed by Karen Minihan, embodies these stories. Through the many common experiences of the women, juxtaposed with their separate, individual experiences, she shows their extraordinary, covert initiatives, and the the bravery and bravado for their cause as they continued to carry out their ordinary daily lives during this disturbed period. Karen tries to unpick what happened and to understand the legacy of that time and the social implications for our West Cork communities.
A short play, Home Rules will be performed by the acclaimed actor, Pauline O’Driscoll. The play is based on the story of one of these women who in 1935 managed the family business, her household and her two sons, two sons cherished for whom they were but who could not see eye to eye as they were on opposite sides in the conflict that shaped our nation.
