We are delighted to be hosting a wonderful new exhibition of work by Sarah Ruttle opening Fri.19th jan. at 5.00pm.
‘This is for you’ is a solo exhibition by artist Sarah Ruttle that includes the series entitled ‘Limitless Compassion’, ‘See Me’ and ‘The Unspoken’. Having taken 2023 to create a body of new work based in contemporary portraiture, the result is a collection which has been on her heart to make for a while.
Sarah is a visual artist based in West Cork with both a solo and participatory arts practice. Individually, she specialises in illustration, paper-cut art and textiles, often creating portraits to capture unique moments of humanity, emotion, courage and hope.
Collaboration is central to Sarah’s work with groups, developing playful, considered and inclusive projects with participants and other artists within health and social care settings. She hopes that people can identify with the work she creates, both on her own and in collaboration, from those moments which need bravery to the moments where joy is bursting from within us.
‘This is for you’ explores some difficult conversations and includes drawings that are based on social crises, address division and inequality and reflect on humanity and healing. Other pieces focus on mental health and consider both the perspective of someone experiencing mental health challenges and the person supporting their loved one on their recovery journey.
Some of Sarah’s inspiration for this collection has come from: collaborating with people living with Dementia; working with our older generation; marking milestones; celebrating the uniqueness of everyday moments and taking advice from those who have lived through the adventures of life.
Although this exhibition explores how complex, emotional challenges are experienced, behind the work is always an anchor of hope.
The solo show opens Friday 19th January at 5 p.m. and will run until Saturday 17th February 2024.
