Well, Well, Well?

Health, healing & lore at Ireland’s holy wells

MARIE BRETT

Artist: Marie Brett

Holy Well researcher: Amanda Clarke

During 2023 and 2024, a diverse group of people participated in an arts project called, Well, Well, Well? which creatively explored the cultural significance of Ireland’s  holy wells and their modern-day role in contemporary Ireland’s healthcare service

Contributors included holy well custodians, historians, healers, folklorists, farmers, scholars and intrigued neighbours, who collectively met with the artist and researcher in fields, living rooms, libraries, community halls and, of course, at holy wells.

Community input helped shape the content and direction of a new artwork series that combines fact, myth and reimagined customs in the form of film, dance, song, music, print, photography and writing.

This is the product of that combination.

The exhibition opens on Fri 8th Nov at 5.00pm and runs until Sat 30th Nov
