Mongoose in Outer Space, WAS, 3rd January 2013

What a night! On thursday, 3rd January, any sneaking January blues were quickly and totally dispelled by the sheer magic of the wonderful Mongoose in concert. (photo gallery below)

Mongoose: outstanding in their field...
Mongoose: outstanding in their field…

Comprising of Molly O’Mahony on guitar, Ailbhe Dunne on double bass & guitar, Muireann Ní Cheannabháin (normally, on cello, but, sadly, due to the space limitations of the Mongoose-mobile, not tonight!) and Cara Dunne on percussion, all the multi-talented band members sing and harmonise beautifully and contribute to percussion as the need arises. And it does!

The songs (mainly original, with some stunning renditions of an eclectic mix of nicely chosen covers) are excellent: full of melody; great lyrics of humour, sensitivity and passion; superb arrangements and dynamics. The musicianship is truly impressive and the harmonies are what really set this group head and shoulders above their peers, if indeed, such exist! They’re going to be huge. In a god way!

A great crowd came to glory in the occasion, creating a marvellous atmosphere, wine and conversation flowed, candles flickered, eyes sparkled and hearts soared at the music.

Míle buíochas do Mongoose as an gig iontach seo agus do Mhuireann as na hamhráin sean-nós a chan sí. Thanks also to all who came to support Mongoose and WAS and what we’re attempting to achieve here: providing a haven and centre for the Arts, a place where people can experience new and different and top-quality Art, whether it be visual, music, poetry, drama or other and providing a forum for artists – particularly, but by no means only – new, upcoming and/or not-so well-known artists to perform or show their work in a warm, welcoming environment to an appreciative and discerning audience.

Thanks, as always to Tomasz Madajczak for photos (the good ones are his!)
