An Evening with Kenny Dread, with Anna Murray & Lea Míklody
We were delighted to finally present on Friday December 12th 7.30pm the wonderful Kenny Dread in an intimate concert. This had been a long time in the offing and a packed house was certainly not disappointed!
Kenny’s exquisite and beautifully crafted songs are known and loved by those of us lucky enough to have heard him perform; this was a wonderful opportunity to see and hear him in the perfect environs of Outer Space, in WAS. His work deserves – and received here, a listening and discerning audience. Projecting his lyrics on a screen while singing them was a master stroke, allowing the audience to fully appreciate the poetry of his words.
Kenny is a veteran performer and multi-disciplinary musician, from Punk to Kirtan, and all the rest in between! Equally comfortable with all styles of music, he is a multi-instrumentalist of incredibly high ability and a true troubadour.
He was beautifully supported by vocalist par excellence, Anna Murray, who also accompanied Kenny on guitar and Lea Míklody on spine-tingling cello. Their sensitive and highly accomplished accompanying added to the sweetness and power of Kenny’s superb songs. Perfection. Truly a night to remember.
Our usual open (non-)mic followed, with poetry and songs ringing the rafters into the wee small and not-so small hours! Participants included Jamie McCarthy-Fisher, John Riordan, Breeda Murphy, Aine Brosnan, John Rossiter, Simon and Alex Lockwood, Miranda McCarthy Fisher, Francesco Biondini, Marie Cullen and Paul ó Colmáin.
