One-day poetry workshop with Afric McGlinchey
Ekphrasis as refraction, refraction as reflection
The word ekphrasis comes from the Greek ek and phrasis, meaning ‘out’ and ‘speak’. An ekphrastic poem is a graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art.
This one day workshop will consider how your poem can make something happen. Participants will be invited to study paintings and sculptures and to write poems in response. Direction will be given. The aim is to achieve something transformative, through attentively rendered observation. The resulting poems will receive in-depth feedback and editing suggestions.
