He teaches 20th century poetry in the English Literature program at Sogang University, and is completing a book of villanelles.

Poetry Workshop details: In his essay, ‘Philip Massinger’, T.S. Eliot avows that immature poets imitate, mature poets steal. Taking our lead from Eliot, this workshop will explore a range of strategies for ‘creative reading’: through implementing modes of response best described as akin to either divination or assemblage, participants will use selected reading materials as triggers for their own poetic images. Upon locating our images, we will then set in motion the (approximate) structures of the villanelle form, and explore how the repeated lines can create opportunity for both lyrical reiterations (an echo) as well as slippage into strange new semantic areas (expansion, rather than mere echo). By the end of the workshop, each participant should have the makings of an experimental villanelle.
