The Third Annual Twelve-Hour Poetry Marathon!

The Third Annual Twelve-Hour Poetry Marathon!

Once again, we hosted the Poetry Marathon as part of the 2015 Skibbereen Arts Festival.    Sat. 1st August 2015 from 12.00 noon until 12.00 midnight.La Balsa de la Medusa2

What a wonderful day and night it was! Once again the work of over fifty poets was read by the poets themselves (or a designated reciter!) And once again, a host of listeners and poetry lovers (and even some poet-lovers!) came along to listen and absorb and wallow in the poetry. Music, too, but only original and poetic.

The Marathon was book-ended by the wonderful, fabulous, exceptional Clara Rose Thornton, the Poet in Residence of the Festival, who set the bar high and, I’m delighted (but not surprised) to say, the standard of excellent poetry was maintained throughout. Thank you to all who came to read, to listen, to support, to be…

Special kudos to Orla Murphy, who not only read, but stayed the entire twelve hours!

Among those who read this year were Clara Rose Thornton, Tom French, Michael McCarthy, Seamus Hogan, Afric McGlinchey, Eugene O’Connell, Annette Skade, Brendan McCormack, Paul Casey, Tadhg Russell, Gabriel Rosenstock, Helen Wing, Mossie O’Halloran, Tommy O’Sullivan, Adele Ogier Jones, Orla Murphy, Francesco Biondini, Michael Ray, Seán O’Mahony, Breeda Murphy, Mary O’Connell, Lothar Luken, Seamus Ryan, Jamie McCarthy-Fisher, Eve Richards, Sarah Doyle, Denis Ryan, Grant March, Kevin Pender, Claire Barton, Wayne Fennel, John Riordan, Tom Weld, Eoin Murray, Nick Smith, David Jackson, Rab Urquhart, Marianne Adams, Paul Cobb, Reddy O’Regan, Isobel Baldwin, Fran Woolf, Joseph Horgan and Paul Ó Colmáin…
