by Dubhaltach Ó Colmáin & Caoimhe Pendred
On Friday 1st July, almost 100 people packed Working Artist Studios for the opening of a long-awaited exhibition by two emerging artists, locals Dubhaltach Ó Colmáin and Caoimhe Pendred, whose work complements each other’s beautifully.
The exhibition, which consists of paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures and an extraordinary installation, was opened by poet, Brendan McCormack with perfectly chosen and moving words.
The exhibition was part of Working Artist Studios’ programme for the Skibbereen Arts Festival and will run until the end of July. (photos to follow)
We are delighted to be able to present brand new works by these two young, West Cork artists, Caoimhe Pendred & Dubhaltach Ó Colmáin.
Although not collaborating, the work of both these artists is influenced by mythology, both ancient and modern and in this fascinating and inspiring collection of work, they explore, worry at and peel away the layers of perception. Something in which the poet, Brendan McCormack, who will be opening the exhibition, is also involved.
Caoimhe Pendred holds a degree in Visual Art (Sherkin Island) DIT and is a painter and ceramicist.
Dubhaltach Ó Colmáin is a sculptor, author and illustrator. His latest book, which he illustrated, Behind Every Hero will be launched in Uillinn at the Skibbereen Arts Festival. He is a founder member of the sculpture group, Nuclear Monkeys.
Brendan McCormack is a Dublin-born poet living in West Cork, He has published two volumes of poetry Selling Heaven (2013) and Phuckle – Irish auf English (2014) and co-runs pSoken Wrod poetry events in Clonakilty, Co.Cork.
Thanks, as always to Cork Council Arts Office for their continued support.
