We were thrilled, honoured and delighted to present an illustrated artist’s talk from the wonderful Polish artist, teacher, wanderer, Sławomir Brzoska in WAS on 13th May 2016 when he showed us the tip of the iceberg of his wide-ranging and highly respected work.
Slawomir works in sculpture, installation, video, land art and performance and is head of 9th Space Activities Studio at The University of Arts in Poznań and Space Activities Studio at The Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.
Widely travelled in some of this world’s most far-flung and esoteric places, he is interested in the nomadic experience: “The purpose of my wanderings is wandering itself, constant movement accompanied by continuous alertness to everything I meet on the way. Alertness but not exploration, study or learning. I want an experience of permanent being on the road. Wandering allows for rejoining the natural rhythm of the world which definitely affected primitive nomads who treated everything around as the source of hierophany and perceived each action in terms of sacred ritual.”
Thanks to Tomasz Madajzcak for the idea and the photos and to all who came along to enjoy a fascinating night of art and conversation. Thanks, too, to Tim Abbott, Grant March and Breeda Murphy for their ever-wonderful contributions.
Thanks, as always to Cork Council Arts Office for their continued support.
