We are delighted to be welcoming back to Working Artist Studios, the award-winning poet and translator, Aidan Hayes, whom we have lured from his NorthWestern fastness to launch his new book of poetry, Staccato (Ashlemon Press).
A multi-award winner, including the Listowel Writers’ Week Prize and the Bursary for Translating from the French Embassy, Aidan, a native of Cork City, now resident in Donegal, has been published in many journals, anthologies and magazines and has five books of poetry published prior to Staccato.
They include: Richesses, translations of French “singerpoets” of Europe & Quebec (Southword Editions 2008); Two Halves (Lapwing 2009); Notes Towards a Love Song (Doghouse 2011); Occupational Hazard (lapwing 2013); and Like the Winter (Ashlemon Press 2015).
His translations from the Irish include The Same Age as the State and An Paróiste Mórúilteach by Máire Mac a’tSaoi
And EarthvoicesWhispering and Our Shared Japan by Eoghan Ó Tuairisc.
Aidan is a wonderfully engaging reader of his work and extremely entertaining – an evening not to be missed! As usual, bring a bottle of whatever you fancy! And we’re pretty sure that music will break out spontaneously during the evening.
As always, thanks to Cork County Council Arts Office.
