We were delighted and honoured to welcome the wonderful James Harpur to Working Artist Studios to read from his marvellous and multi award-winning work, particularly his latest book, The White Silhouette (Carcanet 2018) which WAS helped launch in 2018.
A large crowd attended our first poetry reading (of many!) in the new WAS and they were not disappointed! It was a wonderful night of poetry and music, beginning with James’ wonderful poetry, music from Paul Ó Colmáin and the open mic session which followed. Readers and singers included Anton Floyd, Fiona Smith, Bernadette Gallagher, Lothar Luken, Breeda Murphy, Jamie McCarthy Fisher and Kenny Dread. And all in the beautiful setting of the current exhibition, Leap of Faith by artist in residence, Sharon dipity.
James Harpur lives in West Cork and is the author of six volumes of poetry. His latest book, The White Silhouette (Carcanet), was an Irish Times Book of the Year and includes poems about the Book of Kells, a snowy journey from West Cork to Rosslare, Russian icons, and natural phenomena such as the Perseids meteor shower. He regularly broadcasts on RTÉ’s Sunday Miscellany and A Living Word (‘thought for the day’) and is a member of Aosdána.
