Artworks – Tom Weld Exhibition Sept/Oct 2020

Artworks – Tom Weld (19 September – 23 October 2020) is a retrospective exhibition featuring paintings and drawings from over fifty years of artistic practice.

The exhibition opened on Saturday 19 September 2020 and ran until 23 October 2020. The body of work on display includes Tom’s marvellous Aran Island drawings; his powerful, politically-inspired Maps series of paintings and works made alongside his students. His practice is inspired by land seen mostly from above, and by history, archaeology, politics and language among other influences. Tom works to various scale and uses mainly oils on a variety of surfaces: canvas; paper; found wood.

“I started painting, untrained, while reading English Literature at University, I was as interested in words as in paint. Some of this work dates back to the ’70s. Most was done since moving to Ireland in 2012.”

This was a powerful, “must-see” exhibition that stretched outside the traditional gallery space to take over the entire building at Working Artist Studios.
