New artist residency opportunity in Working Artist Studios open for applications
Working Artist Studios has an opportunity available to apply for a 6 week artist residency in Ballydehob, County Cork. Beginning in September 2020, the residency is designed to provide the successful artist with a studio and support to produce a body of work or develop a new project. The end of the residency will be marked by a public event with a presentation of the work in October 2020.
The opportunity is open to all Irish and international artists, art professionals, educators or creatives working in any art form and at any stage of their career. Working Artist Studios aims to provide a space for art to thrive, encouraging creativity and art as a viable way of life in the community. Through this residency the successful artist will be to encouraged to experience and take part in the life of the community, and make use of the wider artist networks in West Cork. A pilot family workshop will also be developed linking in with the artist’s work, themes and/or techniques. This residency and pilot family project has been made possible thanks to funding from Cork County Council through their Arts Grant funding 2020.
Working Artist Studios is an independent venue operating since 2000 as a space accommodating artist studios for local artists and creatives in West Cork. Over time, it has grown to develop a vibrant programme of exhibitions and artist’s talks from artists both emerging and established, as well as poetry nights hosting a number of top profile Irish and international poets. A key player in local festivals such as Skibbereen Arts Festival and in the wider arts scene in West Cork, Working Artist Studios is currently working in partnership with Cork Craft and Design to host Cork Craft Month’s showcase exhibition due to open in August 2020.
